إليكَ خُذ شكايتِي ..
To You, I bring my sorrow
قَد كُتِبَت بِماء عَيني
It’s written with my tears.
كم بعُدَت مَسافَتـي
How far the distance has grown
ما بَين عَلياكَ وبيني
Between Your lofty place and me.
بَحسرتي .. بحَيرتِي
With my sorrow, with my confusion,
أتيتُكَ اليوم فخُذنِي
I come to You today, so take me in.
وإن تَسل عَن حاجتي
And if You ask what I seek,
فأنتَ أنتَ .. يا “حُسيّنِي”
It is You, none but You… O my Hussein.
ذا كَفيَ بالفقر وبالحَيرة مُـدّا ..
These hands are empty and lost are stretched in need
لمحرمِكَ اليوم أنا المُحتاجُ جِدا
To this Muharram, I am desperately in need.
بالمجالسِ / عودةُ قلبي وتوبتي
In the mourning sessions, my heart returns and repents.
بالمجالس / راحةُ روحي وجنّتي
In the mourning sessions, my soul finds its peace and paradise.
ومتى غبتا ؟/ كي هنا تَعود /
When have you ever left that you should now return?
انت لي وجود / بالهوَى تَجود
You are my existence, you are the one who pours love freely.
الهوى أنتَ / انتَ في الشعور /
You are love itself, in every feeling.
في المَدى حُضور /في دُجاي نور
Present in every distance, a light in my darkest night.
سيدي فيكَ / قد بانَ سناي /
O Master, in you my light shines.
جد هاكَ يداي / قد زادَ ظماي
So take my hands, they tremble with thirst.
ابا عبدالله / يا كل مناي٣
O Aba Abdullah, O all my hopes

أهَل أبوحُ بالهوَى؟
Should I confess my love?
وأنتَ عَن هَوايَ تَدري
When You already know my longing?
تعَلمُ عَن لَظى الجَوى..
You know the burning within me—
في دميَ الحنينُ يَجـري
The yearning runs through my blood.
قلبيَ ها لَكَ اكتَوى
My heart is aflame for you
أيا حُسين عـزَّ صَبـري ..
O Hussein, my patience has collapsed
لا ما سَكنتَ نينوى
No, You never lived only in Nainava (Karbala)
فأنتَ ساكنٌ بـصدري ..!
For you’ve always lived inside my chest.
وسؤاليَ هَل قلبكَ لِي يحملُ حبّا ..
And my question, does your heart hold love for me?
أوَ تقبلني قافلةٌ تجمعُ صَحبـا ..
Would I be accepted among the caravan of your companions?
يا مناي قل / هل لَيَ يا سيدي نصيب
O my only wish, tell me, do I have a share, O Master?
حَيرتي أهَل / أُحُسب بينَ الورى قريب ؟
Tell me, am I counted among those near to You?
قل أهل إني / مثلهم قريب؟ /
Say, am I like them, close to You?
قُرةٌ ، شَبيب / شوذبٌ ، حبيب
Qurra, Shabib, Shawdhab, Habib
عابسٌ ، نافع / مسلمٌ ، بشير /
Abis, Nafi’a, Muslim, Bashir
جُندبٌ ، زهير / مالكٌ ، برير
Jundub, Zuhayr, Malik, Burayr
ليته منهم / يمتلي وِعاي /
If only I were one of them, my soul would be full.
فيهم هواي / فيهم رجاي
In them is my love, in them is my hope.
أبا عبدالله / يا كل مناي٣
O Aba Abdullah, O all my hopes

هَذا أذانُ دَمعتي
This is the call of my tears
عاشُور ها قَد عادَ سَعيا
Ashura has returned, rushing back.
قد حان فرض صَرختي
It is time to offer my cry,
بندبةٍ تتبعُ نَعـيـا ..
With an elegy that follows the mourning.
جلّت بكم مصيبتي
My tragedy through you has deepened.
يا ليتني ما كنتُ شيّا
If only I had never existed
قد عظمت رزيتي
The sorrow overwhelms me
أموتُ في الحزن وأحيا
I die in grief, and yet I live through it.
ولأي بلايَاك أنا أبكِ طَويلا !؟
For which of your sufferings should I weep the longest?!
وكثيريَ في رزئكَ قد صارَ قليلا
Even my many tears feel too few for your pain.
إنني أرى / ضوؤكَ قد لاحَ في المَسا
I see your light rising in the dusk.
قل بما تُرى / أبدأُ في مَشعَرِ الأسَى؟
Tell me, where should I begin, in this sacred station of grief?
أيها أنعى / جسمك الصريع؟ /
Shall I grieve for your torn body?
نحرك القطيع؟ / أم تُرى الرضيع؟
Your severed neck? Or the infant who was slain?
ولما أبكي؟ / لابنةِ الرسول؟ /
And why do I cry? For the daughter of the Prophet?
أم عَلى الخيول / عشرةً تجول ..
Or for the ten horses that trampled over You?
آهِ واويلا / آهِ يا بكاي / آه يا رثاي / آه يا عزاي
Woe upon woe, O my tears, O my mourning, O my consolation
ابا عبدالله / يا كل مناي٣
O Aba Abdullah, O all my hopes
